How to get rid of acne permanently in 6 Steps
24th March, 2025What’s Really Going on with Acne?
Let’s talk about acne!
Whether it’s a pimple that pops up before a big event or those stubborn breakouts that seem to have a permanent address on your face, acne can feel like a constant battle. But don’t worry—you’re not alone, and we’ve got your back! Here's everything you need to know about acne and how to take charge of your skin.
Acne isn’t just a skin issue; it’s a combination of factors like excess oil, clogged pores, and inflammation. Normally, the skin produces oil (sebum), but sometimes it gets trapped with dead skin cells inside pores, creating the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive. And what happens next? Boom—breakout!
But here’s the good news: acne can be controlled and treated with the right approach!
Step 1: Keep it Clean, But Don’t Overdo It!
There’s a tendency to want to do everything you can to get rid of these stubborn zits. However, you don’t need to scrub your face raw. In fact, harsh scrubbing can irritate your skin and make things worse.
Instead, stick to a gentle cleanser twice a day - morning and night. Look for one with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to help keep pores clear and reduce bacteria.
Pro Tip: Don't forget to wash your pillowcase and phone screen regularly. Both are prime bacteria carriers!
Step 2: Stay Hydrated, Inside and Out
Some of you may think this sounds cliché but trust me, this doesn’t get as emphasized as it should be.
Yes, you need water (a lot of it), but you also need to hydrate your skin. Moisturizing keeps your skin from overproducing oil, which can lead to more breakouts. Go for a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer (meaning one that doesn’t clog pores).
Step 3: Target Those Pimples
If breakouts do appear, treat them quickly with spot treatments. Products containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can help zap pimples fast. Apply a thin layer directly to the spot, and don’t overapply—it’s all about balance.
Step 4: Resist the Urge to Pick or Pop!
It’s tempting, we know. But picking at pimples can introduce more bacteria, cause hyperpigmentation and scarring, and spread the breakout. Leave it to the products to do the work!
Step 5: Nutrition Matters
What you eat can impact your skin. I like to say the skin is a mirror to the rest of the body. Avoiding greasy foods is key (sorry, pizza lovers!), but also try adding more omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and whole foods to your diet. Your skin will thank you.
Step 6: Seek Professional Help when Needed
If acne is persistent or severe, don’t hesitate to consult a dermatologist or licensed aesthetic practitioner. You need someone to hold your hand and guide you through this acne journey. Plus, they can offer treatments like prescription medications, retinoids, and recommend procedures like chemical peels, microneedling, or even laser therapy, depending on the severity.
So here’s the summary….
Acne is a challenge, but it doesn’t have to take over your life. With a consistent skincare routine, the right products, and a little patience, clearer skin is within reach.
Remember, acne doesn’t define you, and with the right care, you can confidently put your best face forward!
